On September 5, 2025, the Sichuan-Maldives Maternal and Child Traditional Chinese Medicine Academic Seminar was held at our hospital. Nine maternal and child health experts from Addu Equatorial Hospital, Hulhumalé Hospital, ADK Private Hospital, and Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the Maldives visited our hospital for a one-day exchange and observation program. Deputy Party Secretary Fan Xiaohong delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the hospital, extending a sincere welcome to the international colleagues from afar and expressing hope that this visit would mark the beginning of further expanding cooperation in the field of maternal and child health TCM.

During the seminar, four experts from our hospital – Ji Xiaoli (Gynecology), Chen Jin (Obstetrics), Zhou Hongyun (Pediatrics), and Zhou Yue (Neonatology) – gave thematic presentations. The Gynecology department shared TCM diagnosis and treatment plans for pelvic inflammatory disease, menstrual disorders, and post-HIFU surgery rehabilitation. The Obstetrics department introduced preconception care, fetal position correction, five-element music therapy for pain relief, LDR family delivery rooms, and other patient-centered services. The Pediatrics department systematically elaborated on academic viewpoints and clinical experience regarding the prevention and treatment of childhood asthma, purpura, tic disorders, and other diseases with TCM. The Neonatology department emphasized the extensive application and precautions of external TCM treatments like herbal baths, application therapy, and massage for common neonatal illnesses. Dr. Ayesha Zara Naseem, an Obstetrician and Gynecologist from Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Maldives, also shared the current situation and challenges of the maternal and child health system in the Maldives, expressing a desire for further learning in appropriate TCM technologies. The seminar atmosphere was enthusiastic, with in-depth discussions on the clinical application and innovation of TCM in maternal and child health, covering topics such as post-operative neonatal rehabilitation, pediatric medication, optimization of external TCM techniques during pregnancy and childbirth, and treatment of common infant diseases.

The Maldivian expert team also conducted field visits to the Gynecology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Neonatology departments of our hospital to observe the specific application of TCM in the prevention and treatment of women's and children's diseases. In the Gynecology department, experts gained in-depth understanding of external TCM techniques like auricular acupuncture, herbal ironing, and moxibustion, engaging in on-site exchanges with medical staff regarding acupoint localization and indications. In the Obstetrics department, the delegation visited the LDR integrated family delivery rooms, gaining a deeper understanding of the integrated Chinese and Western medicine perinatal health service model. In the Pediatrics department, the delegation focused on the application of TCM in preventing and treating diseases where it holds advantages, such as respiratory, digestive, purpura, kidney diseases, and growth and development issues in children. The Neonatology department showcased the characteristic practices of external TCM therapies for neonatal jaundice, abdominal distension, and gastric retention.

This academic seminar was organized and implemented by the International Exchange and Cooperation Department (Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan Office), aiming to build an international platform for academic exchange between Chinese and Western medicine for clinical departments. Through the collaborative efforts of the Gynecology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Neonatology departments, the event not only effectively demonstrated our hospital's strengths and innovations in the integrated Chinese and Western medicine prevention and treatment of gynecological, obstetric, pediatric, and neonatal diseases but also laid a solid foundation for promoting deeper cooperation between China and the Maldives in the field of maternal and child health.
